The introduction of social media as a communication system

Social media can be seen as having taken over lives a little. With more than 75% of people with active profiles on social media platforms like Facebook will check their profile and newsfeed at least once a day. That can also be said for your workforce and even drivers when they are on their breaks. While it’s good to ensure that you can remain in constant communication with drivers and your fleet, more companies are considering using social media to do it. Facebook launched a Facebook at work platform where people set up a separate profile. This means that companies can update their own status and allow their drivers and workforce to log in. Things like sharing information such as problems on the road or other things could be a great tool. This can save on costs.

The increase in autonomous vehicles

Everyone is talking about autonomous vehicles, and more manufacturers are including self-drive features than ever before. Making certain aspects of the fleet vehicle self managed. With more cars and vans being placed with the ability to park themselves, break to avoid collisions and regulate speeds, it means that a driver has no more excuses when it comes to things like small time damage to vehicles, dents and scratches, As well as avoiding things like accidents and collisions. The question is, how long will it take before more autonomous vehicles make it onto the fleet? A further question to think about would be at what point will self-driving vehicles become your vehicle fleet?

Improving safety across the fleet and for drivers on the road

Safety is a huge priority for many businesses and company owners, and one trend we are seeing is the use of fleet tracking software to help improve the safety aspect of drivers on the road. One of the main plus points of a vehicle tracking system would be to help avoid speeding fines and instances where accidents can form form speeding. Obviously this sort of technology has a way of helping to save money as well as improving the safety. Also, telematics software can help a fleet manager keep tabs on the location of a driver, should they need any emergency assistance.

The use of mobile applications for fleet management

There is literally an application for everything, and so there may be a new vehicle trend where we see the introduction of a fleet management app within a business. This application could then send alerts and updates directly to the users smartphone. This could be a great way to communicate problems or service announcements. But it could also be an easier way for feedback to be sent and received in regards to drivability and driver behaviour.

Predictive maintenance of fleet vehicles

Finally, you may find that instead of waiting for an alert to come in when a vehicle needs servicing or is due its MOT, you will find that more fleets are predicting the maintenance needed to keep their company fleet on the road. This will allow fleet managers to be far more proactive with their vehicles. Technology such as built-in telematics can help a manager to predict maintenance needed, instead of fixing a problem when it arises. The telematics system can help to enable managers to be alerted when things are needing troubleshooting in regards to the running of the vehicle. This can save a company precious time and money on the bottom line.
